Saints women's tennis blank RIT, 9-0

With a 9-0 shutout of RIT in the Newell Field House on Sunday, the St. Lawrence women's tennis has now won three straight and pulled even at .500 (2-2) in conference matches. Now at 12-3 on the season, the Saints have just three matches remaining before the Liberty League tournament.

After sitting out doubles in Saturday's match with Nazareth, Elkie Vandenbeemt and Morgan McNeal returned as the Saints number one pairing and downed RIT's Sara Bjork and Elizabeth McGrail 8-3. The duos of Anna Young and Georgia Comber and Samantha Miller and Hallie Young each picked up 8-1 wins in the other doubles matches to give the Saints a 3-0 lead heading into singles.

Each singles match was decided in straight sets, with McNeal and Hallie Young blanking their opponents 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 and No. 6, respectively. Olivia Arroyo extended her streak of singles wins to four with a 6-2, 6-1 over McGrail in the second spot, while Elkie Vandenbeemt won her second straight against Sara Bjork at No. 1, 6-4, 6-2.

Other winners for the Saints included Comber in the fourth position, as she posted a 6-0, 6-1 win over Gianna Heaviland, and Anna Young who downed Paige Baker 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5.

St. Lawrence will play host to Cortland on Thursday, April 10 at 4 p.m.
