Junior Alanna Blackburn led the Saints on the first day of the Liberty League Swimming and Diving Championships with a top-five finish, while also helping the team to a pair of solid relay finishes in Rochester on Friday afternoon. St. Lawrence is tied with William Smith for fourth at the end of day one with 220 points.

Blackburn earned the highest individual for the Saints when we came in third in the 50 free, posting a time of 24.86. Less than half a second separated Blackburn and teammate Becca Raab, who finished tenth in the event in 25.48.

Other top-ten finishes for St. Lawrence came in the 200 free and 400 medley relays, as the respective foursomes came in sixth. Blackburn swam the anchor leg in both, teaming up with Raab, Heather Foley and Nicole Leinders for a time of 1:43.82 in the free relay, before posting a time of 4:11.08 with Meg Musser, Julia Carson and Foley in the medley.

Meg Musser, the lone first-year on the women's team this season, edged a William Smith swimmer by one one-hundredth of a second in the 200 IM to finish 11th in 2:18:00.

Gabriella Marchetti (5:32.58) and Julia Carson (5:37.39) earned the other top-20 finishes for St. Lawrence in the 500 freestyle, placing 13th and 18th, respectively.

The Saints will be back in the pool tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. for the first of two sessions to close out the Championship meet.
