Madeline Holodnik finished in third place in the 1,650-yard freestyle and contributed to the Saints' eighth-place 400 free relay to lead the St. Lawrence University women's swimming and diving team on the final day of competition at the Liberty League Championships hosted by Ithaca College on Saturday.
Holodnik finished in 17 minutes, 51.09 seconds, just 1.63 seconds slower than the school record, in her first attempt at the distance. Amanda Meurer and Emily McCormick finished eighth and ninth, respectively, in the race.
Demi McClung finished seventh in the 200 breaststroke and, along with Meurer and Christina Felchner, was also a member of the 400 free relay.
St. Lawrence moved ahead of William Smith into sixth place in the final team standings with 652 points. Rensselaer won the meet with 1,486 points, with Ithaca second with 1436.
Quote from Head Coach Bob Clemmer
"It was tough to endure a meet for four days of prelims and finals for many of our younger swimmers, but the support and enthusiasm they received inspired most to achieve personal best times in their events."
