Saints women's squash team splits matches at George Washington

St. Lawrence University's women's squash team received a key five-game victory from Kate Holby and went on to defeat Georgetown 5-4 to gain a split of matches at George Washington on Thursday.

The Saints, ranked 27th nationally lost to the Colonials, ranked 14th, 9-0 with all nine matches decided by 3-0 scores.

In the Georgetown match, Brigitte Tousignant was a 3-0 winner at one, beating Sarah Kencel 11-6, 11-5, 11-6. Jenn Hearn won 3-0 at two in a tight match with Kirsten Craddock, winning 11-7, 12-10, 12-0. The teams alternated wins in matches three through eight. Kendall Harty lost in three at three, but Brittany Coxe beat Lindsay Kolowich 11-6, 11-4, 11-4 at four. Charlotte Edson won game one at five before Julia Caffrey came back with three straight wins for a 3-1 win. Molly Caplan lost game one, 11-9, but came back with 11-5, 11-1 and 11-6 wins for a 3-1 win at six. Parker Bendict lost in three at seven, but Holby came through with a 3-2 win at eight which tipped the match in the Saints favor.

Holby won games one and two 11-9 and 11-4 before Lucy Gibson came back to tie it with 11-5 and 11-4 wins in games three and four. Holby closed it out with a 11-7 win in game five.

Georgetown's Lindsay Weil beat Carolyn Fisher in three at nine and Mary McShea beat Caroline Williams in the exhibition at ten.

Against GWU,Tousignant lost 11-5, 11-9, 11-7 at one to Jacqueline Shea, Hearn lost 11-4, 11-4, 11-9 to Kelly Barnes at two and Elizabeth Tapley beat Harty 11-6, 11-4, 11-2 at three. Lauren Matheiur was a 11-3, 11-7, 11-2 winner over Coxe at four, Caroline Shumway beat Edson 11-4, 11-3, 11-7 at five and Tiffany Hingley beat Caplan 11-5, 11-1, 11-3 at six. Benedict lost 3-0 to Adriana Calderon at seven, Holby lost 3-0 to Maya Nair at eight and Fisher was beaten by Rebecca Imrich at nine. Williams lost 3-0 in the exhibition to Catherine Ehrlich.

The Saints will play Bates at the Robie Squash Center on Saturday.
