Two quick goals in the first half helped the Nazareth women's soccer team down St. Lawrence 3-1 in Rochester on Friday afternoon. Sophomore Taylor Goldsborough notched the Saints lone goal; her first of the season.

The Saints outshot the Golden Flyers 13-7 in the game, but only held a slight 4-3 edge in shots on goal.

"Overall we actually played well in the middle third of the field, but failed to consistently show our bite both offensively and defensively," Head Coach Franco Bari said.

Nazareth connected for their first of the day in the sixth minute, when a shot from Ashtin Argentieri deflected off the post and behind St. Lawrence keeper Kelsey West. The Golden Flyers' Michaela Soules extended the lead to 2-0 in the 13th minute.

It wasn't until the 57th minute that Goldsborough put the Saints on the board with a penalty kick. "Taylor's precise finished started with a well earned play by Nyssa LaClair," Bari added. After a LaClair was hauled down while cutting down the right side of the box, Goldsborough stepped to the line and tucked a shot low inside the right post to cut the Nazareth lead in half.

However, less than 10 minutes later, Elizabeth Howell beat West to put Nazareth back in front by two goals. Howell's tally is the first the Saints have allowed in the second half this season.

The Saints will look for a weekend split with a 2 p.m. game at Elmira College on Saturday afternoon.
