TROY, NY – The St. Lawrence University women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to Rensselaer in Friday evening's Liberty League match in Troy, NY. The Engineers improve to 6-2-1 (1-0), while the Saints fall to 6-2-2 (0-2) after losing their second straight conference game. St. Lawrence will look to get back on track against Union tomorrow afternoon in Schenectady, NY.

"The result was a bit frustrating," said St. Lawrence head coach Franco Bari. "While we had a few regular contributors out of the line-up, we knew we'd have to make a few adjustments. They put an early goal in which really rattled us but the team was determined to stay in the game. Bottom line, RPI finished their chances and we didn't. I'm confident that we will be much more prepared tomorrow."

Brooke Van Baush got the hosts off to a quick start when she received a pass from Sandy Kirk and lofted a shot over St. Lawrence senior goalkeeper Andrea Strauss for a goal, just 26 seconds in.

The Engineers made it 2-0 in the 21st minute, when Sara Rothschild corralled a rebound just left of the six-yard box and hit a shot into the top left corner. Strauss was only able to get her fingertips on the ball as it made its way into the net.

St. Lawrence sophomore Samantha Rock brought the Saints to within one (2-1) in the 36th minute when she fought through a scrum and scored from less than two feet out. A corner kick by first-year student Taylor Goldsborough dropped inside the six for Rock, who tapped in her third of the season.

A perfectly placed cross from the left flank by RPI's Alex Shaw found the head of Giana Abballe, who finished into the left side of the net capped the Engineers' scoring, 3-1.

RPI goalkeeper Alex Scholz improved to 5-0 after playing the first 45 minutes. She was forced to make one save, while senior Steph Vargas did not face a shot on goal in the second half. Strauss (3-1-1) finished with three saves on the day.
