Junior Megan Gannon scored 51 seconds into the second half to give the fourth-seeded St. Lawrence University women's soccer team a 1-0 lead and the win over the fifth-seeded Skidmore Thoroughbreds to advance to the Liberty League semifinals for the second consecutive year on Tuesday afternoon at Sandy MacAllaster Field.

Out of the gate, the Saints applied steady pressure against the Thoroughbreds, firing 12 shots and three shots on goal throughout the first half.

After a scoreless 45 minutes of play, Gannon netted her second goal of the season by capitalizing on a rebound off an original long-range shot from Sylvie Holding that hit the crossbar.

"We talked a lot about gratitude in our pre-game talk and it was evident even in the warm up that every one of the players and staff were thankful to play on Sandy one more time," said head coach Sinead McSharry. "To play for the seniors one more time, people were smiling, having fun and enjoying the moment. Our goal was to stay in the moment and take a risk and it worked. Skidmore is a fantastic team and it was an amazing competitive game to be a part of."

The Thoroughbreds proved resilient, outshooting the Saints 14-7 in the second half, but Skidmore was unable to put one away. Yasmine Boukari led Skidmore with four shots on goal.

Saints' goalkeeper Samantha Allen posted her ninth shutout of the season and finished with seven saves, while Ava Keller recorded four saves for Skidmore.

St. Lawrence edged Skidmore in shots, 19-18, but the Thoroughbreds held a 7-5 shots on goal advantage.

The Scarlet and Brown improved to 10-2-4 on the season, while Skidmore fell to 8-7-0.

The Saints will advance to play top seed William Smith in game one of the Liberty League semifinals on Saturday, November 3 at 4:30 p.m. in Geneva, New York.
