First-year Julia Mulhern and sophomore Megan Gannon scored two goals each and head coach Franco Bari earned his 100th win with the Scarlet and Brown, as the No. 4 St. Lawrence University women's soccer team defeated No. 5 Rensselaer 6-0 in the Liberty League first-round game, Tuesday morning at Sandy MacAllaster Field.

Katie Stames struck first for the Saints after she beat three defenders to put a shot in the lower right corner past RPI goalkeeper Joey Lyons.

Gannon notched her first goal of the day with a one-touch pass from Nikkie Syrotiak. First-year Katie Clemmer then gave the Scarlet and Brown a four-goal lead, just five minutes later, after a rebound and a put back right in front of the RPI net.

Gannon hit her second of the day just seconds before halftime with a breakaway goal. Mulhern assisted on the play.

Mulhern tallied back-to-back goals to finish off the day. Her first goal of the game with a shot to the far post off a feed from Emily Wade, and her second, bounced off the lower right post into the back of the net.

"The team played very inspired today," Bari said. "We had a clear game plan and stuck to it. The group defending was phenomenal, we battled hard in the midfield and did a very nice job of capitalizing on our opportunities. This was the first time in program history that we've hosted a Liberty League conference tournament match and it will certainly be memorable. I'm very proud of the effort this team put forward."

Despite the result, the Engineer's outshot the Saints 30-12, including 21 shots in the second half, and held a 13-8 shots on goal advantage. Saints' goalkeepers Samantha Allen and Cynnie White combined for 13 saves, earning nine and four, respectively.

Lyons and Tori Riopelle each made one save in goal for RPI.

With the win, the Saints earned their sixth shutout of the season and improved to 11-6 overall, while RPI fell to 8-8-2.

Bari tallied his 100th win with St. Lawrence this afternoon and earned his 168th career win overall.

The Saints advanced to the semifinal round of the 2017 Liberty League Tournament and will travel to William Smith for a 4 p.m. game on Saturday, Nov. 4th in Geneva, New York.

St. Lawrence faced William Smith in back-to-back Liberty League championships in 2014 and 2015.
