Saints women's soccer roll past Elmira, 8-0; remain unbeaten

Kaleigh White recorded her second hat trick of the season and Katie Stames also had a multi-goal game, as the Saints beat Elmira 8-0 on Saturday afternoon to remain unbeaten at 7-0 on the season. Senior Emily DePoy finished with four assists in the contest.

The Saints scored four goals in the first half, all in the first 26 minutes, as they controlled the pace of the game from the opening kick and maintained continuous pressure, creating 10 corner kick opportunities in the first half and 11 total without conceding one.

"This was a great overall weekend for the Saints," Head Coach Franco Bari said. "We were able to tune a few things up before conference play and found quite a bit of success."

White had two goals in the first 12 minutes of Saturday's contest for her eighth and ninth strikes of the season with assists going to Emily DePoy and Lindsay Geier. Her first came following through ball from DePoy from about 40 yards out that hit White in stride as she entered the box. The sophomore hit a low shot into the middle of the net behind Elmira keeper Amanda Banner for the game winner in the seventh minute.

White's second game in the 12th minute and was followed shortly thereafter by Stames' first of the day off another feed from senior DePoy on a corner kick. Depoy played a high ball across the box and Stames was waiting far post to volley the ball home for a 3-0 Saints lead.

The fourth goal came off the foot of Lindsay Geier after a thru ball from first-year Julia Hill put her in behind the defense for a low finish on Banner to increase the lead to 4-0 early in the 26th minute.

White notched her hat trick early in the second half when Hannah Merriam hit a long ball from well beyond midfield that sprung the Middleton, Mass. native on a breakaway for a one-on-one finish with Banner and a 5-0 Saints lead.

The final three goals came each came in quick succession for the Saints, as Stames tallied her second of the day in the 59th minute and Merriam followed with her first career goal in the 61st minute to push the margin to seven goals.

Merriam took a hard shot from in close that was initially saved by Banner but stayed with the play, jostled for the ball and was able to tuck it in from the six.

Samantha Rock rounded out the scoring in the 63rd minute on a high shot from 15 yards out after DePoy put her through the Soaring Eagles defense for her fourth helper of the afternoon.

St. Lawrence finished with a 32-11 edge in total shots and 21-7 advantage in shots on goal. Starting goalkeeper Amanda Banner made eight saves with seven goals against in just over 60 minutes of action, while backup Gabe Carmona stop three shots and gave up the goal to Rock to close out the game.

Kelsey West, who earned the start once again for Coach Bari and the Saints, made three saves in nearly 55 minutes of action and sophomore Jackie Sovie, who came in in relief, finished with four stops.

The Saints will begin the conference portion of their schedule next weekend with a trip to RIT on Saturday, Sept. 26.
