Although the Saints had the better of the chances in the second half and both overtime sessions, the St. Lawrence and Middlebury women's soccer teams played a 0-0 draw in a rare contest on North Country field on Wednesday evening under the lights.

"This was a very exciting game as we knew Middlebury would bring a lot of energy," Head Coach Franco Bari said. "I thought both teams moved the ball well and we generated very strong opportunities."

Middlebury outshot the Saints 6-3 in the first half, though the Saints had the advantage in corners, 2-0. The Saints powered back in the second half for eight shots and three more corner attempts. Lindsay Geier got a head on three corners at the far post on Wednesday, but sent each just wide of the net.

The Saints best opportunity of the day came from Hannah Merriam just over a minute into the second overtime period when she hit a shot from distance at the corner of the box and had Panthers keeper Kate Reinmuth beat, but it rang off the crossbar and stayed out to keep things scoreless.

Reinmuth finished with four saves for Middlebury, while senior Kelsey West made six stops for St. Lawrence.

"We had a lot of fight in us this evening and I am very proud of our performance," Bari said. "This was a great tune up for our conference game this weekend."

The Saints, now 9-3-2 overall, will take on Skidmore in Saratoga Springs in a crucial Liberty League match this Saturday at 3 p.m.
