Canton, NY – A defensive battle throughout the game, the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team came up just short against rival St. Lawrence, losing 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights end their regular season with a mark of 5-12 (1-7 Liberty League) while the Saints end with a record of 9-4-3 (3-4-1 Liberty League).

The lone goal in the game came in the 14th minute off of a free kick when Holly Wark crossed to Hannah Calvelli, whose shot was stopped by Clarkson goalkeeper Kim Kenline (Akron, NY). The rebound was taken by Erika Gobeille, who capitalized and scored to put the Saints up 1-0.

The Knights had a chance later in the period when Megan Strijek (Schenectady, NY) had a breakaway into the offensive end, but her shot went wide of the net to keep the score 1-0.

The second half had more opportunities for the Knights as they controlled tempo and kept the ball in the attacking zone. Anna Demasi (Colchester, VT) created a scoring chance by crossing the ball over the St. Lawrence defense to Strijek, but the Saints' keeper made a diving save to deny the goal.

Demasi was again involved with a scoring chance, this time in the 71st minute when Nikki Carfi (Liverpool, NY) directed a corner kick to the top of the box and Demasi was there for the shot, but she hit the crossbar and it bounced over the net.

Kenline recorded five saves in the loss. St. Lawrence outshot Clarkson 12-8 on the afternoon.
