The St. Lawrence women's soccer team used a pair of first-half goals by sophomore Taylor Goldsborough and first-year Katie Stames to shut out Elmir, 2-0, on the road Saturday afternoon.

"We played very well against a much-improved Elmira team," Head Coach Franco Bari said. "While they gave us a few fits, I was much more pleased with how well we defended as a unit."

Defensively, St. Lawrence (4-2) held the Soaring Eagles (2-2-1) to just six shots, with only three on goal. Meanwhile, the Saints offense was dominant throughout the game, as the team maintained possession and registered a season-high 27 total shots, including 15 shots on goal.

"Our attacking was much more dangerous than yesterday," Bari added. "It was refreshing to end the weekend on a good note."

Goldsborough put the Saints on the board in the 26th minute with her second goal of the weekend when she pushed a low shot into the left corner past Elmira goalkeeper Gabe Carmona.

Stames extended the lead to 2-0 with her team-leading fourth goal of the year in the 40th minute. The first-year, Morrisville, Vermont native redirected a cross from classmate Hannah Merriam past Carmona from the six-yard box. Stames also leads the Saints with eight points so far this season.

Junior keeper Kelsey West made three saves en route to her third shutout win of the season.

The Saints will return home to Sandy MacAllaster field for a midweek game against SUNY Oswego on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 4 p.m.
