Saints women's lax surpass Bard on the road

Olivia Slade recorded a hat trick as the St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team topped Bard 17-4 in a Liberty League contest Friday afternoon at Ferrari Field in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York.

Slade gave her best performance of the season leading the Saints by scoring three goals and adding an assist. Hannah Merson scored two goals and an assist, while Rachel Boghosian, Emma Jewett and Brooke Kelly added two goals apiece. Ashley Norris recorded one goal and assisted on four others, while five other members of the Saints squad tallied one goal each. Kiera Taussig picked up three ground balls and cause three turnovers for the Saints.

Mitiguy opened up scoring for the Saints with her 19th goal of the season early in the first half. Kayla Schmalz drove in from the top of the arc to give the Saints a 2-0 lead. The Raptors responded just 32 seconds later with their first goal of the game. Hoffman netted her first career goal, to increase the Saints lead 7-2, as the Saints continued to pressure the Raptors taking a 9-3 lead at halftime.

Merson recorded her first and second career goals during the second half of play, as the Saints continued to extend their lead over Bard. St. Lawrence scored eight unanswered goals before Caleigh DeCaprio netted the Raptors' lone second-half goal with just over 17 minutes to play.

"This win was just what we needed heading into our final game of the regular season tomorrow," said head coach Ashley Pike.

Casey White, Melissa Rosenthal, DeCaprio and Dylan McDonald each scored one goal for the Raptors. Rosenthal led the team with two ground balls, while Hannah Baird caused two turnovers. Kaylynn Tran recorded 12 saves in goal for Bard.

St. Lawrence advanced to 8-7 on the season and 5-3 in conference play, while Bard fell to 4-9 and 0-8.

The Saints travel to Vassar tomorrow afternoon for their last game of the regular season in hopes to secure a spot in the Liberty League championships next weekend.
