Junior Kiera Taussig scored on a free-position shot with less than a minute to play in the first overtime period to lead the St. Lawrence University Women's Lacrosse team to an 11-10 victory over the University of Rochester Friday afternoon in the Liberty League opener on North Country Field at Hall-Leet Stadium in Canton.

St. Lawrence (5-4 overall, 1-0 Liberty League) rallied in the final 13 minutes with a pair of goals to tie the game and controlled the ball for the entire overtime period before scoring the game winner with 48.6 seconds left on the clock.

The Saints had multiple chances to win the game in overtime as Hayden Stein took a centering pass from Chloe Knapp and hit the post on a shot and Taussig had a shot that hit the leg of Rochester (3-5, 0-1) goalie Maire Prosak but the Saints retained possession picking up the loose ball.

Taussig made another run to the goal 20 seconds later and was fouled near the goal earning the free-position opportunity. Taussig set a low shot past Prosak for the game-winner.

With Rochester leading 10-8, Alexandra LaMotte caused a turnover in transition and was later awarded a free-position shot that she scored on to cut the lead to a single goal.

Five minutes later, senior defender Emma Garfield caused a turnover deep in the St. Lawrence end and raced the length of the field scoring her first goal of the season and first since her sophomore year on a shot over the right shoulder of the goalie to knot the score at 10-10 with 7:33 left to play in the second half.

Taussig nearly gave the Saints a late lead but missed wide on a shot in transition. The Yellowjackets also had a late chance but with less than 10 seconds remaining, had a shot sail wide.

Rochester jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Taussig and Kara Hurley each scored to tie the game at the 19:00 mark of the opening half.

The Yellowjackets scored the next three goals but the Saints responded scoring four of the final five goals of the half as the teams went into the intermission tied at 6-6.

Knapp scored twice in the late run while Caroline Bailey and Kayla Schmalz each scored single goals for the Saints.

In the second half, Abigail Owens scored to give the Saints a 7-6 lead but Rochester scored four of the next five goals with Taussig scoring in the middle of the run for the Saints as the Yellowjackets built their 10-8 lead.

Prosak made nine saves for Rochester while Olga Lukas stopped three shots for the Saints to earn her fourth win of the season.

The Saints continue the opening Liberty League weekend with a matchup against RIT at 3 pm Saturday in Canton.
