Senior captain Kayla Schmalz scored on a free position attempt with 3:27 remaining to snap an 8-8 tie and secure a 9-8 victory for the St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team over the University of Rochester in Liberty League play on Saturday afternoon in Rochester, New York.

A goal from Rochester's Madeline Levy and Seabury's second of the half put Rochester within three goals but Schmalz scored on a counter attack off a pass from Jewett to make it 7-3 at the break.
In the second half, goals from Mary Panepento and Maggie McKenna sparked a comeback attempt for the Yellowjackets, trimming the deficit to 7-5. Boghosian restored a three-goal edge for the Scarlet and Brown getting to a loose ball deep in the critical scoring area and putting it past Rochester's goalkeeper Conley Ernst.
Levy netted back-to-back goals for the Yellowjackets bringing the game within one.
Panepento fed Jenna Macri for the tying goal with 4:10 left
Schmalz responded with her free-position goal less than a minute later, ending Rochester's comeback attempt.
"We have been working very hard to determine what our identity is," said head coach Hannah Corkery Collins '11. "Through all these close games, we have learned that we have a hard working and relentless group. I am very proud of the team and the way they overcame adversity and were able to feel like they did everything they could to earn a W."
Levy scored three goals to lead the Yellowjackets, while Seabury had two goals. Panepento and McKenna each added one goal and one assist. Elizabeth Botto picked up four ground balls and Madeline Mullholand won six draw controls.
