First-year Campbell Armstrong scored three goals and assisted on two others to record a career-high five points, but the St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team couldn't quite catch the No. 15 William Smith Herons, who posted an 11-7 win over the Saints Saturday afternoon at Hall-Leet Stadium.

Second to Armstrong, senior Rachel Boghosian added two goals, while classmate Ashley Norris tallied one goal and two assists. Emma Jewett also added one goal for the Saints. Colby Hoffman picked up three ground balls and caused two turnovers, while Greta Massey picked up three ground balls and forced one turnover and Kayla Schmalz won five draw controls.

Melissa Moore put the Herons on the board first with an unassisted tally six minutes and 41 seconds into the first half.

Just over two minutes later, Armstrong found Norris right out in front of the crease to tie the game 1-1. Armstong then netted her first goal of the game to give the Saints a one-goal lead with 17:48 to play in the first half.

William Smith tallied the next three goals to build a 5-2 lead over the Scarlet and Brown.

Armstrong fed Boghosian, who made a quick run to the goal for her 26th goal of the season and the Saints' third goal of the game just after halftime.

Nicki Santora and Ellie Burns picked up two more goals for the Herons and increased William Smiths lead to 6-3.

Schmalz circled the back side of the net and fed Boghosian to bring the Saints back within a two-goal margin with 26:33 to play. About three minutes later, Norris found Jewett in the center lane. Jewett closed the gap to one on a mishandled shot from Herons' goalkeeper Jules Kennedy.

Sarah Benyo restored the Herons lead back to three after back-to-back goals just two minutes and 21 seconds apart. Moore capped another three-goal run for William Smith to give the Herons a 9-5 lead with 11:02 to play.

Armstong netted two goals down the stretch, but with two more Herons' goals added to the score the Saints we're unable to forge a comeback against the nationally ranked team.

"We had an exciting weekend of close games and came up short again," said head coach Hannah Corkery Collins '11. "We're a talented team and are hungry for a victory. We look forward to learning from these past two games in order to make us better and find success. A big thank you to all the alums that came this weekend to show their support for the Scarlet and Brown."

Santora led William Smith with three goals, while Moore, Burns, Benyo and Sadie Mapstone all added two goals. Moore recorded three assists, while Benyo added one. Burns caused two turnovers and Mekayla Montgomery won seven draw controls for the Herons.

Saints' goalkeeper Olga Lukas and the Heron's Kennedy each made seven saves in their respective nets.
