Greta Massey scored twice and Abigail Owens had four goals for the St. Lawrence University Women's Lacrosse team Saturday but the final result was a fifth straight one-goal loss as the Saints fell to William Smith 11-10 Saturday afternoon in a Liberty League matchup on North Country Field at Hall-Leet Stadium in Canton.

St. Lawrence (3-10 Overall, 1-6 Liberty League) opened the scoring less than two minutes into the game as Kara Hurley scored giving the Saints an early lead.

William Smith (6-8, 4-3) answered with three straight goals in a span of five minutes before Massey stopped the streak with her first goal of the season after winning the draw.

The Herons scored two of the next three as Massey scored again for the Saints before Owens netted two consecutive goals to tie the score at 5-5 with 10:34 left in the first half.

William Smith scored the final two goals of the half for a 7-5 advantage at the halftime intermission.

Michaela Maybee cut the lead back to a single goal four minutes into the second half but the Herons scored four of the next four goals for an 11-7 lead and 9:04 left in the second half. Maybee had scored the lone Saints goal in the middle of the William Smith rally.

Ashley Norris scored with just more than four minutes to play as the Saints started to battle back.

Owens scored twice in a span of 1:02 making the score 11-10 with 1:58 on the clock but the Herons controlled the draw and ran out the remaining minute in the St. Lawrence zone.

Owens added an assist to finish with four goals and one assist for five points while Chloe Knapp and Hayden Stein added single assists for St. Lawrence.

In a reception after the game, seniors Adden Cunningham, Danielle Zimmer and Martha Hamlin were honored as part of the Senior Day celebration.
