St. Lawrence University's women's indoor track and field team is ranked fifth in the most recent USTFCCCA NCAA Division III computer rankings, the highest pre-nationals ranking in program history.
The Saints, eighth a week ago, trail only MIT, Illinois Wesleyan, Wisconsin-Oshkosh and Wisconsin-LaCrosse in the poll. The Saints are the top ranked team in the Atlantic Region with Ithaca second, SUNY Cortland third and Buffalo State fourth.
Prior to making its first top-ten appearance in the indoor rankings in the last poll, the highest in-season ranking for the Saints was 13th in the March 5 poll a year ago. The Saints finished third in the final indoor poll of the 2010 season with the rankings based on finish in the NCAA Championship.
SLU will pursue a second straight New York State Track Conference indoor championship when competition gets underway at RIT on Friday.
