In its final non-conference game of the season, the St. Lawrence women's hockey team was shut out by the Syracuse Orange 3-0 at the Onondaga War Memorial in Syracuse on Tuesday night.

"We put forth a solid effort," Head Coach Chris Wells said. "We had as many good chances to score as we have had in the last few games."

The Saints outshot the Orange 37-20, including 11 shots on the power play, but Syracuse blocked a total of 21 shots and stymied five man-advantage opportunities for the Scarlet and Brown.

"Syracuse did a nice job on the PK and [Jenesica] Drinkwater was there to make some big stops when we were pressing," Wells said. "They capitalized on their opportunities to get the win."

Syracuse got on the board just over seven minutes into the first period when Allie LaCombe beat sophomore Giulia Mazzochi on a rebound inside the left post. Cara Johnson added her first of two third-period tallies 7:18 into the final frame when she intercepted a pass in the Saints defensive zone and beat Mikaela Thompson to give the Orange a 2-0 lead. Johnson added an empty-net score with 1:25 remaining to seal the win for Syracuse.

Mazzochi and Thompson split time for the Saints in net on Tuesday night, with Mazzochi making nine of the combined 17 saves.

First-year Brooke Webster led the Saints with a game-high eight shots.

"We played hard and saw plenty of good things as we head into the final six games of the regular season," Wells added.

The game was the first meeting between the Saints and former Head Coach Paul Flanagan, who was at the helm of the program from 1999 to 2008. His assistant, Alison Domenico, graduated from St. Lawrence in 2009 and is one of the Saints all-time leaders in career power-play goals with 29.

Next up for the Saints is a Friday night match up against Princeton at Appleton Arena at 7 p.m. As part of the University's #SaintsGoSocial Digital Identity Education Week, the women's hockey game versus the Tigers is slated to help educate students and fans about social media use. The team will wear special Twitter jerseys, with each athlete identified by their Twitter handles rather than the traditional name bar. A number of contests and events will be held for fans in attendance as well as those who tune into the free HD web broadcast.
