The St. Lawrence University women's hockey team will open the spring semester with a trip to the Washington, D.C., area, and a pair of games against Mercyhurst.

The games have been dubbed "D1 in DC" and will be played at Kettler Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, Virginia, which is the practice site for the Washington Capitals. The contests will be held on Saturday, Jan. 7 and Sunday, Jan. 8, with a 1 p.m. opening faceoff both days.

D1 in DC is organized by the Pride Hockey Association, which is committed to developing female student-athlete leaders from the Washington, D.C., metro area through ice hockey.

"We are really fortunate to be able to bring women's college hockey to Washington, D.C.," said Saints head coach Chris Wells '92. "It will be a great experience for our team to visit the nation's capital and play Mercyhurst. The Washington Pride has done a great job making this event go. We will have two entertaining games, and it wouldn't be possible without all of the work put forth by (Washington Pride Director/Head Coach) Kush Sidhu and his organization."

The trip also coincides with a SLU Connect – D.C. Networking Reception with President William L. Fox and Lynn S. Fox at the Fairmont Hotel in Washington, D.C., on Thursday night, and a Singing Saints concert at Rí Rá Georgetown on Friday night. Tickets for the Singing Saints concert are $10, and those attending will receive complimentary tickets to the hockey games.

"We are always looking for our team to have new and challenging experiences and this trip is one we have been looking forward to," said Wells. "We will be able to attend some great St. Lawrence University events while in town and see the historic sites of Washington D.C."

Those not planning on attending the Singing Saints concert can purchase tickets online or at the door. The cost of admission is $10 and tickets are good for games on both days.
