The ninth-ranked St. Lawrence women's hockey team extended its unbeaten streak to eight games with an exciting 4-3 win over Yale on Saturday afternoon at Appleton Arena. Junior wing Jenna Marks tallied with the game-winning goal and an assist, while senior captain Amanda Boulier recorded a goal and an assist of her own.

With the win, the Saints improve to 16-8-3 overall and 10-3-2 in ECAC Hockey. The Bulldogs, who stormed into Appleton after upsetting Clarkson 3-2 on Friday night, fall to 10-12-1 and 7-9-0 in conference games.

"That was an exciting game that had just about everything a player, fan and coach could want," Head Coach Chris Wells said. "Yale plays with great pace and they create so much off the rush."

The Saints jumped out in front early with a goal by sophomore defenseman Kirsten Padalis just two minutes in. Bulldogs netminder Jaimie Leonoff made a stop on an initial shot by Marks, but couldn't thwart the second-chance opportunity by Padalis, who came crashing through the slot to bury her fourth of the year.

Yale's Jamie Haddad – a player who gave the Saints trouble all afternoon with her aggressive style of play – pulled her team even at the 7:34 mark of the opening frame with a wrist shot from the slot that found its way behind senior goaltender Carmen MacDonald.

At the 13:40 mark of the first Yale's Madi Murray was assessed a penalty for hooking, which opened the floodgates, as the Bulldogs were whistled for four minor penalties and the Saints for two in a matter of just six minutes.

With Saints on a four-on-three power play, Boulier took a cross-ice pass from fellow blueliner Amanda McClure and took a quick shot from the top of the left circle that floated

through traffic and over Leonoff's shoulder to give the Saints a 2-1 lead headed in to the first intermission.

The teams combined for four second period goals, with the Saints scoring two to open up a 4-1 lead on the Bulldogs before the visitors responded with two goals of their own in a span of just 58 seconds to pull within one and carry plenty of momentum into the final period of play.

Jacqueline Wand scored the first of the Saints goals in the second period, making it 3-1 in favor of the home team as the trailer on an odd-man rush with Kennedy Marchment and Brooke Webster. Marchment carried the puck down the right wing before dishing to Webster on the left side. Webster's shot was stopped by Leonoff, but the Bulldog netminder kicked the rebound right in between the circles and onto the stick of Wand, who was crashing through the slot to finish.

Marks tallied her game-winning goal at the 7:40 mark of the second when she tucked home the rebound from an Amanda Boulier shot for her twelfth marker of the season.

It didn't take long for the Bulldogs to answer with Taylor Marchin finding the net with a slapshot from the right point that sailed through traffic as her teammates collapsed in to screen MacDonald.

Fifty eight seconds later, MacDonald made three straight point blank saves on Yale with the Saints unable to clear the rebound to the wall. The fourth shot came off the stick of Jackie Raines and pulled the Bulldogs within one at 4-3, but that would be the last puck they snuck behind the St. Lawrence senior.

MacDonald made 10 saves in the third to keep the Saints out in front while dealing with plenty of pressure from the visitors out in front of her crease, particularly from Olympian Phoebe Staenz.

The Pictou, Nova Scotia native finished with 21 saves in the contest, while Leonoff stopped 32 shots for the Bulldogs.

"We were fortunate to make some key blocks in the 3rd from both our players and Carmen to get the two points," Wells added.

Those two points were crucial to the ECAC standings, as the Saints remain in a three-way tie for third with Cornell and Clarkson after Saturday's contests. They'll host the Golden Knights on Tuesday, Feb. 3 at 7:00 p.m. for the final conference matchup of the season between the two rivals.
