Goals by Kayla Raniwsky, Kirsten Padalis and Kailee Heidersbach helped the St. Lawrence women's hockey team close out a five-game and 13-day road trip with a 3-1 win over the Colgate Raiders on Saturday afternoon. The Saints improve to 10-8-3 overall and 6-3-2 against ECAC opponents this season.

"Another big two points for us today," Head Coach Chris Wells said. "Colgate had some chances to tie the game in the third and the puck bounced our way. We were able to play some good defense on the penalty kill and on the 6-on-5 to preserve the win."

The Saints were assessed three penalties in the second half of the third period while clinging to a 2-1 lead, but first-year netminder Brooke Wolejko turned aside all four Colgate shots with the man advantage to hang on for her third win of the season. She finished the afternoon with 17 saves.

St. Lawrence got on the board 3:57 into the first period with Raniwsky's seventh goal of the season from classmates Jessica Hon and Amanda Boulier. Her's was the lone marker of the first period, sending the teams into the first intermission with the Saints in front 1-0.

Padalis then connected for an unassisted goal and the eventual game winner nearly six minutes into the second period to increase the visitor's lead to 2-0; a lead they carried into the third.

But 43 seconds into the final frame the Raiders' Breanne Wilson-Bennett got her team on the board and cut the deficit in half.

Heidersbach added an empty net goal from Boulier with 33 seconds remaining to give the Saints their eventual 3-1 margin.

"It was a great road trip all around and we now look forward to the sprint home in the ECAC," Wells added.

With the win and a tie between Clarkson and Cornell, the Saints are now a full two points ahead of the Big Red and are in sole possession of fifth place heading into next weekend's matchups with RPI and Union at Appleton Arena.
