Saints women's hockey, Big Green battle to 2-2 tie

First-year forward Justine Reyes buried a rebound midway through the third period to erase a one-goal deficit to force overtime and help St. Lawrence earn a 2-2 tie with Dartmouth on Saturday in Appleton Arena. The Saints picked up three conference points on the weekend, moving them into sole possession of sixth place.

"What a great weekend of hockey at Appleton," Head Coach Chris Wells said. "Both teams left it out on the ice. Dartmouth had a few real good chances in OT and so did we. That was six plus periods of up and down hockey in two days."

The game was back-and-forth all afternoon, with the team's finishing with an even 34 shots a piece. St. Lawrence's Grace Harrison – who played two full back-to-back games for the first time this season – made 32 stops, as did her counterpart Robyn Chemago for the Big Green.

The Saints got on the board first when Alex Moore beat Chemago with a slapshot from the left point for her second of the season. The play started with Hannah Miller winning the draw on the left circle to Kailee Heidersbach, who touched a quick pass to Moore up high for a shot through traffic at 12:09 of the opening frame.

Exactly one minute later, Dartmouth's Kennedy Ottenbreit evened the score on the powerplay with her own shot from the point off a feed from Kate Landers to send the team's into the first intermission tied 1-1.

Late in the second period, the teams were assessed matching minors following a scrum in the corner after a whistle and 40 seconds into the ensuing four-on-four, Dartmouth's Ailish Forfar gave her team a 2-1 lead. Forfar beat Harrison at the far side of the net for her sixth of the season, with Laura Stacey assisting.

Dartmouth carried the 2-1 into the middle of the third before Reyes buried a rebound into a wide open net on the far side after Chemago stopped Brooke Webster but couldn't hang on to the puck. Kennedy Marchment also picked up an assist on the play.

In the extra session, both goaltenders made a couple key stops on odd-man rushes to preserve the tie and pick up a point in conference.

The Saints will continue their ECAC Hockey schedule with a road trip to Colgate and Cornell next weekend.
