Saints women's golf team member O'Neil leads Liberty League after Round One

St. Lawrence University sophomore Claire O'Neil is the first day leader after 18 holes of the 2014 Liberty League Women's Golf Championship being held at the Crumpin-Fox Club in Bernardston, MA.

O'Neil was one of two players to break 80 on the par 72, 5432 yard course with an opening 76 and a three-shot lead over Kristina Shaloup of NYU going into Sunday's final round. Only 12 of 35 players in the field were able to break 90 on the challenging layout.

The Saints are third as a team behind NYU and Mount Holyoke after round one. NYU placed all four of its scorers in the top seven and leads by eight strokes over Mt. Holyoke with a score of 333 to Mt. Holyoke's 341. The Saints had a best of five total of 360 with Wellesley 13 strokes back in a seven-team field.

Augusta Mayer was the second Saint scorer on Saturday with a round of 91, tied fo r13th while Laura Gay was tied fo r17th at 95 and Kelly Hale tied for 24th at 98. Lexi Haehl was the fifth Saint player and had a 104.
