PLATTSBURGH -- The nationally-ranked No. 20 St. Lawrence women's cross country team fell short of No. 13 Plattsburgh State on Saturday at the annual "Cardinal Classic" hosted by Plattsburgh State.

The Cardinals logged a team score of 23 points to defeat the Scarlet and Brown, who were second with 35 points overall.

"We knew going into the weekend that Plattsburgh was going to provide us with a competitive early-season test and would be a very difficult team to beat," said St. Lawrence head coach Mike Howard. "Jenna and Megan (Hulton) ran exceptionally well for this point in the season and our younger runners were much improved from last year, so overall, it was a very solid effort."

The Hulton sisters finished in second and third place, respectively, with Jenna finishing in 18:47 while Megan closed in 19:01. Plattsburgh's Stefanie Braun won the race with a time of 18:43.

Sophomore Amy Cymerman was the third St. Lawrence runner across the finish line in 19:39, while junior Jackie Lemme (10th) and senior co-captain McKayla Nuffer (11th) capped the team's scoring.

Junior Caroline Raue (12th) and senior co-captain Mel Solandt (14th) narrowly missed out on scoring for St. Lawrence, while sophomore Toria Koutras logged a 15th place finish overall.

Also representing St. Lawrence in the "Cardinal Classic" on Saturday were Katie Mannix (16th), Anne Martino (17th), Abby Macbeth (18th), Kelsey Leder (20th), Deidre Beller (21st), Kayla Vodacek (22nd), Elizabeth Edwards (23rd), Kendra Sultzer (24th), Kate Sneden (26th) and Emily von Loesecke (28th).

Several members of the women's cross country team will compete in the North Country Five meet scheduled for Wednesday, September 7. The team will then head to Saratoga Springs, NY for the annual Saratoga Invitational on September 17.
