The St. Lawrence University women's varsity 8+ defeated Hamilton College for the Newell Cup on Saturday afternoon in Clinton, NY. The remaining women's races and all of the men's events were canceled due to unsafe rowing conditions.
St. Lawrence raced in a time of 6:42.47, defeating the Continentals, who rowed in 6:50.88 in the blustery winds.
The Saints' varsity 8+ was stroked by Madeline Fones, while Kelly Greenwood was coxswain. Other competitors included Heidi Weiss, Karen Blakelock, Maggie Fellows, Jenette Kloss, Britton Weber, Sally Dankner and Jessica Burdett.
Both St. Lawrence rowing teams are slated to compete again tomorrow in Schenectady, NY against Union College.
