The St. Lawrence University women's basketball team raced out to at 15-1 lead and never looked back, defeating SUNY Canton in the Burkman Gymnasium by the score of 79-56 on Monday evening. The Saints had four players score in double figures and used a dominating 51-29 advantage in rebounds to earn the non-conference win.

St. Lawrence (7-5) was led by Kara McDuffee's 19 points and five assists, while Kelly Legg chipped in 10 points and 12 boards for a double-double. Allison Cady was outstanding on both ends of the floor with 14 points, four assists and three blocks, while rookie Caroline Dalton added 10 points. The Saints shot 46% from the floor and had 28 assists and 12 blocks against the Kangaroos (2-13), who saw their losing streak extend to nine games.

"It was a nice team victory where we moved the ball and shot it really well. We broke down a little bit at the end with too many fouls, but it was good opportunity to get everyone on our roster a lot of playing time," said St. Lawrence head coach Dan Roiger. "It's nice to be able to play during the bye week and keep the rust off heading into the final stretch of conference play."

SUNY Canton was led by Janelle Bradish's game-high 20 points and nine rebounds. Though the Kangaroos were 27-for-34 at the free throw line, they shot only 29% from the floor and gave up 20 offensive rebounds.

St. Lawrence cruised to an 11-0 lead, and did not allow a Canton field goal until the 6:29 mark of the first half. The Saints offense created open looks that players converted, leading to a 22-point cushion at 38-16 with 3:16 left in the period, which become a 40-19 lead at halftime.

The home team continued to thrive early in the second half, using a 15-4 run to blow the lead open to 34 points (55-21) with 14:19 remaining. With the game in hand, Coach Roiger emptied his bench with 8:30 to play and the starters did not return.

SUNY Canton would compete to the final whistle, earning eight foul calls against St. Lawrence in the final 3:18 of regulation, and using free throws to bring the final score to 79-56.

Katie Murray added eight points off the bench for St. Lawrence, while Olivia Mathieu and Ellie Gonyeau added six and five points, respectively. Brianna Sayer, Alicia Uhlein and Breanna Vatter each chipped in seven points for the Kangaroos.

St. Lawrence will be in Liberty League action this weekend, as they visit Bard on Friday before a showdown with perennial contender Vassar on Saturday afternoon. The Saints take on the Raptors in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY on Friday evening at 6:00pm.
