Vassar rookie Sophie Nick grabbed the rebound off her own missed foul shot and hit a layup with just three seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to lead the Brewers to a 72-70 win over the St. Lawrence women's basketball team on Friday night at Burkman Gymnasium. Nick had tied the game two seconds earlier with the first free throw, and after the miss crashed the lane to pick up the loose ball.

The basket capped a furious comeback for the Brewers, who trailed 57-44 at the end of the third quarter.

Kaelyn Kohlasch led St. Lawrence with 18 points off the bench, going 7-for-15 from the field and 4-for-8 from 3-point range. Shayna Davner added 13 points and Cara Waterson tallied 11 for the Saints.

The Saints led for nearly the entire game, building their largest lead at the end of the third quarter thanks to a 12-1 run over the last four and a half minutes of the quarter. The Brewers started the fourth quarter with an 8-0 run, the chipped away at the rest of the lead the rest of the way, tying the game on Mave Sussman's driving layup with 16.8 seconds left in the game.

Cara Waterson was fouled on the Saints' next possession and hit one of her two free throws, to give the Saints a 70-69 lead, setting up Nick's game-winning effort.

Vassar was led by junior Ariella Rosenthal and Nick who contributed 16 points each. Freshman Isa Peczuh added 15 points, and sophomore Nicole Teta tallied 12 in the win.

The Saints fell to 8-13 overall and 5-8 in Liberty League play, while the Brewers improve to 11-11,8-5.

The Saints will face Bard College in Burkman Gymnasium tomorrow at 2 p.m., and will honor the class of 2017 for senior day prior to the opening tip off.
