The St. Lawrence University women's basketball team outmuscled its way to a 73-55 victory over SUNY Potsdam on Sunday in the Burkman Gymnasium. The Saints, led by Kara McDuffee and Caroline Dalton's double-doubles, held a 56-27 advantage in rebounds shot 43 percent from the floor to improve to 2-4 on the season. Meanwhile, the Bears (3-4) were led by Jessica Kouzan and Bailey Weigel who scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Four Saints reached double figures in scoring. Kara McDuffee had a game-high 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Caroline Dalton added 12 points and 10 rebounds. Kelly Legg recorded 11 points and nine rebounds, and Cassie St. Hilaire chipped in 10 points and six rebounds.

St. Lawrence and Potsdam struggled from the floor in the early going, but a 3-pointer by Lauren Quattrocchi at 14:15 gave the home team an 8-4 lead and an offensive spark. After consecutive jumpers from Colleen McNamara and Bailey Weigel tied the contest at 8-8 with 12:23 remaining in the first half, the Saints went on a 23-4 run to close the opener with a 31-12 lead. A 28-12 advantage in rebounds, 15 second-chance points and a well-balanced offensive effort that saw eight players score was key in the Saints gaining a double-figure lead in the first half. Cassie St. Hilaire had eight points off the bench in the opening stanza, while Kara McDuffee and Caroline Dalton combined for half of their team's 28 rebounds.

St. Lawrence continued to extend its lead into the second half, outscoring Potsdam 12-2 in the first four minutes and taking a 43-14 lead on a 3-pointer from Caroline Dalton. The home team led by as many as 32 points, 51-19, with under 13:00 minutes left. The Bears outscored the Saints 43-42 but couldn't overcome St. Lawrence's lead they had built in the first half.

Potsdam shot under 30 percent from the floor in the contest, but forced 32 St. Lawrence turnovers and committed 24 of their own.

St. Lawrence will be back in action in 2014 at the Williams Tournament on January 4 and 5. Potsdam will head down to Daytona Beach to face Williams and Williams Smith on Dec. 20 and 21.
