The St. Lawrence University women's hockey team scored an extra-attacker goal with only 2:12 left in regulation, helping the Saints earn a 2-2 tie against Union College in Schenectady, NY on Saturday. The Scarlet and Brown owned a 54-23 advantage in shots on goal over the Dutchwomen, but Kate Gallagher's 52-save performance helped the home team earn a point in the ECAC Hockey standings.

St. Lawrence moves to 4-3-3 on the season, while Union completes a three-point conference weekend, the best in program history, and is now 3-7-1 overall.

"We threw everything but the Premier Bus at (Gallagher) and could only get two past her," said St. Lawrence head coach Chris Wells. "Certainly a great effort by Union, and though not the result we wanted, we were happy with the comeback. This team is growing into one that is really fun to coach."

The Saints scored the only goal of the first period at the 18:50 mark when junior Kelly Sabatine netted her fourth goal of the season to put her team on top 1-0. Co-captain Karell Emard and Mel Desrochers assisted on the opening goal.

Despite a 14-6 shot advantage for the Scarlet and Brown in the second period, it was Union that scored the only goal of the stanza to set up a dramatic third. Camille Corbin's second goal of the year at 14:31 tied the score at 1-1, as she beat St. Lawrence sophomore goalie Caitlyn Lahonen. Dania Simmonds assisted on the goal.

Union, which shocked Clarkson University in a 2-1 victory on Friday night, appeared headed for another big win when Lauren Cromartie scored an unassisted goal at 12:54 of the third period to give the Dutchwomen a late lead. The tally was Cromartie's second tally of the year.

Needing a late goal, Coach Wells opted to pull Lahonen for an extra skater while his team skated on a power play. The Saints used the extra offense well, as first-year student Amanda Boulier scored the 6-on-4 goal at 17:48 to knot the score at 2-2. The goal, which was assisted by Desrochers, was the first of Boulier's collegiate career and forced the overtime session.

St. Lawrence continued to own the majority of the offensive chances in the extra period, outshooting Union 6-2. However, Gallagher continued to impress, turning away all six shots to reach 52 saves on the night and earn the 2-2 tie.

Lahonen closed with 21 saves for the Saints, who were 1-for-8 on the power play. The Dutchwomen finished 0-for-3 with the extra skater.

St. Lawrence will be back in action next weekend, Friday and Saturday, November 11 and 12, when it hosts Princeton and Quinnipiac at Appleton Arena.
