Senior co-captain Katie Edgerton recorded her second double-double of the season to lead the St. Lawrence University women's basketball team to a 72-56 victory over Rensselear in the Burkman Gymnasium on Friday night.

St. Lawrence, which extended its win-streak to seven games, improved to 10-4 with a perfect 6-0 mark in the Liberty League. Edgerton recorded 14 points and 10 rebounds, while dishing out five assists. Sophomore Kelly Legg had a team-high 16 points and added five rebounds. First-year student Cassie St. Hilaire and junior Erica Spera each had eight points, while seniors Iris Santoni and Casey Capello each added seven points.

Rensselaer, led by Hillary McKinley and Sarah Wetmore, fell to 9-6 and evened to 3-3 in the league. Wetmore notched a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while McKinley had a game-high 22 points for the Engineers.

St. Lawrence jumped out to a 14-4 lead as it made 7-of-10 shots in the opening 6:00 minutes of play. After building a 19-6 lead nearing the halfway mark of the first half, the Saints went on a scoreless drought for over 7:00 minutes, allowing RPI to close the deficit to 21-19 on a layup by McKinley at 5:31. After a jumper by Erica Spera broke the Saint scoreless streak, the home team ended the half on an 11-6 run to take a 32-25 advantage into the locker room.

McKinley scored the last six of eight points by RPI, while seven Saints put points on the board in the first half.

St. Lawrence built its lead back up to 12 (37-25) on a 3-pointer by Legg at 17:45, but RPI was able to cut the deficit back down to six points on a 10-4 run led by Wetmore to bring the score to 41-35 at 13:22. The Saints once again were able to separate from the Engineers and held a double-digit lead until around the 2:00 minute mark when McKinley went on a scoring spree, scoring two of the nine points she scored in the final minutes. Her layup brought the visitors back to within seven points at 61-54, but that was the closest the Engineers would come as the Saints converted 7-of-8 free throws down the stretch to close out the 72-56 victory.

The Scarlet and Brown will host Union tomorrow at 2:00pm. Meanwhile, the Engineers will take on the Golden Knights of Clarkson in Potsdam, NY.
