The St. Lawrence University Volleyball team defeated Bard and dropped a decision to Clarkson Saturday on the second day of competition of the second Liberty League crossover weekend of action in Rochester at RIT.

The Saints (11-11 Overall, 5-3 Liberty League) dropped its first match to Clarkson by scores of 25-22, 25-20 and 25-16 before rebounding to defeat Bard by scores of 25-18, 25-18 and 25-12.

Against Clarkson Lexi Brown led the attack with eight kills and Masha Kolesnikova added six. Katie Kull dished out 17 assists, two blocks and seven digs. Cristina Deschaine added a pair of blocks and moved into second place on the all-time career blocks list at St. Lawrence passing Natalie Kurtz who finished with 319 blocks from 2006-09.

"I thought we did a nice job against the Clarkson outside hitters but they had some other players step up and hurt us," said Head Coach Shelly Roiger. "We didn't capitalize on opportunities to push ahead. There's no doubt in my mind that we can defeat Clarkson but the bigger issue is that I'm not certain our team truly believes it."

In the Bard victory, Brown had 11 kills and Kolesnikova added seven while Katie Rowell served six aces and Mariah Dignan had 13 digs. Kull finished with 21 assists, 13 digs and four aces for the Saints.

"We did what we needed to do against Bard," said Roiger. "It was nice to finish the weekend with a win. The team will get a very necessary day off Sunday and then we will get after it Monday and Tuesday before taking on the (Potsdam) Bears Wednesday."

The Saints will play a Wednesday night home match against Potsdam this week and then enjoy eight days off before returning to action Oct. 15 at Plattsburgh and the MIT Invitational Oct. 16-17 with matches against MIT, New Paltz and Western New England.
