Katie Kull recorded 38 assists, four aces, 10 digs and three blocks to lead the St. Lawrence University volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over SUNY Potsdam in a non-conference midweek match Wednesday night at Maxcy Hall in Potsdam.
St. Lawrence (13-17) dominated the opening set, winning by a 25-17 score. In the second set, the Saints trailed late but rallied to score seven of the final eight points in the set to score a 26-24 victory. Potsdam (13-15) came back to win the third set with a close 25-23 victory. In the fourth set, the Saints used a late 8-0 run to pull away for a 25-19 victory to cap the match.
"Tonight's victory over Potsdam wasn't necessarily our prettiest of the year but we will take a win on the road whenever we can get it," said head coach Shelly Roiger. "We fell down several times during the match and we were very resilient in battling back and taking advantage of miscues on the other side of the net."
Besides Kull's statistics, St. Lawrence received 14 kills from Grace Kelly and 11 from Julia Wagner. Senior Katie Rowell served three aces and had a team-leading 17 digs, while Vivian Susko contributed 11 digs.
"We will have a tremendous practice tomorrow in preparation for our final weekend against three good opponents and our focus will be on enjoying our remaining time together while continuing to make forward steps as we near the end of our 2016 journey," said Roiger.
The Saints finish the season at the Brockport Invitational Friday and Saturday with matches against Allegheny, St. John Fisher and SUNY Fredonia.
