Junior Amanda Teppo recorded 16 blocks over two matches to finish the 2018 season tied for fifth place in the Saints' record book with 104 blocks on the season as the St. Lawrence University volleyball team topped Elmira (3-2) and Hartwick (3-1) to sweep the SUNY Oneonta Invitational in Oneonta, New York to close the 2018 season.

Teppo also broke her own record from 2016 and ranks first in the record book with 1.16 blocks per set on the season. Mac Barnes also added her name in the same category, ranking fifth with 0.80 blocks per set in a season.

"I'm very proud of our team for finishing the season on a positive note," said head coach Shelly Roiger. "Like earlier in the season, our five set win over Elmira was a war. They are much better than their record indicates and we showed good toughness and resiliency. With only a 30 minute break, we came out strong in match two against Hartwick. Our block was outstanding and it was awesome to send our seniors out with two wins on their final day."

Match 1 vs. Elmira (St. Lawrence 3, Elmira 2)

Elmira took an early two set lead over the Saints, but the Scarlet and Brown rallied and forced a fourth and fifth set for the 3-2 win over the Soaring Eagles. Elmira took the first two sets by scores of 25-21 and 25-22, but the Saints closed the set with two 25-21 wins and a 15-7 win in the fifth set.

Natalie Piper led the Saints with 20 kills, while Marissa Parker added 14 and Grace Kelly recorded 12. Teppo finished with seven blocks, while Ally Good assisted on 32 plays and Reagan Collier-Hogan recorded a team best 22 digs.

Elmira was led by Tiara John with 18 kills, two blocks and 34 digs, while Taylor Kaznowski finished with 49 assists and Natalie Schieder recorded two service aces.

St. Lawrence held a 66-60 edge in kills and topped the Soaring Eagles in blocks (9-4), assists (57-55) and aces (6-5).

Match 2 vs. Hartwick (St. Lawrence 3, Hartwick 1)

St. Lawrence claimed the first two sets by scores of 25-23 and 25-23, but the Hawks rallied to take the third set 28-26 forcing a fourth set, where the Saints finished with a 25-21 win.

Once again, Piper led the Saints with 14 kills, while Jenna Britton recorded two service aces and 12 assists. Teppo finished with nine blocks in the second match to finish with a season total of 104, while Collier-Hogan added another 16 digs to record a two-match total of 38.

Hartwick took and early 7-3 lead in the first set, but the Saints quickly regained control, tied the set at eight and posted a 7-0 run to lead 12-8. The Scarlet and Brown continued to extend their lead to 20-19 and close the set with a block from Parker and Teppo.

In the second set, the Hawks jumped out to another early lead, but the Saints rallied once again, tying the set at four and holding an 11-10 edge. The Hawks quickly tied the set for the second time and led 17-14 down the stretch. A Hartwick attacking error brought the Saints back to 20-20 and after three more ties the Saints closed the second set with a kill from Piper and a service ace from Vivian Susko.

Hartwick maintained the lead for the majority of the third set and forced extra points after multiple ties with the Saints, eventually coming away with the third set, 28-26.

In the fourth set, the Saints jumped out to an 8-3 lead and extended that to 14-7 after a 4-0 run. After a second 4-0 run, St. Lawrence edged the Hawks 18-10.
