Cristina Deschaine recorded 26 kills and Katie Kull handed out 69 assists as the St. Lawrence University Volleyball squad capped the first weekend of Liberty League play with a pair of victories defeating Bard and Skidmore with 3-1 scores each Saturday afternoon at Union College in Schenectady.

St. Lawrence (5-8 Overall, 3-1 Liberty League) downed Bard in the first match of the day with set scores of 25-12, 21-25, 25-14 and 25-12 and then defeated Skidmore by the same match score with set results of 25-22, 25-14, 22-25 and 25-14.

"Today was definitely not our greatest level of volleyball but we'll take two wins against improved opponents," said Head Coach Shelly Roiger. "I like that we have found the ability to battle back when behind and finish when ahead. Our overall toughness continues to improve and progress is being made. We have a lot more to accomplish but it is nice to see the team's hard work pay off with some conference wins."

Against Bard, Deschaine led the way with 11 kills while Rachel Pineda and Kelly Dillon each contributed three aces and Kull handed out 24 assists. Kull and Masha Kolesnikova led the team with 10 digs each.

In the Skidmore match, Deschaine added 15 kills and Lexi Brown chipped in 14 kills while Maddy Ruehl finished with 10 kills to pace the Saints attack. Kull recorded 45 assists and Marisa Turner added three aces and 10 digs. Mariah Dignan led the Saints with 16 digs on defense.

The Saints return to action Tuesday with a pair of matches at Potsdam against Oswego and Potsdam before playing Friday for the first time at home with matches against Canton and Medaille.
