Masha Kolesnikova and Katie Kull led the St. Lawrence University volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Bard on senior day in Burkman Gymnasium, Saturday afternoon. Today's win left the Saints with an 11-0 unbeaten record at home for the 2017 season.

Kolesnikova served three aces for the Saints and recorded six kills. Kull added 28 assists and seven digs. Julia Wagner tallied nine kills and a team-high five blocks.

The Saints defeated Bard in three sets by scores of 25-15, 25-19 and 25-18. St. Lawrence jumped out to an early 6-2 lead and posted multiple-point runs to claim the first set.

In the second set, the Saints took control of the lead once again with a quick 12-6 advantage and never looked back despite a comeback attempt from the Raptors.

Bard took their first lead of the match in the third set, taking a 3-2 and 5-4 lead. The third set posted seven ties, but the Saints regained a 13-12 lead and earned the next five points to lead 18-12. Ally Good added two service aces down the stretch for the win.

"Our win today over Bard wasn't our sharpest of the season, but I thought we found our focus and executed well when we needed to," said head coach Shelly Roiger. "The team was coming off of a very emotional and draining victory from last night so we knew there would be some level of let-down, but the team was determined to finish their 2017 season undefeated at home and I'm proud of them for their ability to do so. It was a great way to honor our seniors for senior day as well."

Bard was led by Philippine Alba with 10 kills, one ace and one block. Jewel Smith added 13 assists, while Emily Anastasi recorded 14 digs.

"We didn't get the help that we needed to qualify for playoffs, and while there is a lot of disappointment in that fact, I hope the team can recognize that their season this year was still a very successful one" Roiger continued. "Three of the top four teams in the region rankings are Liberty League teams and we're proud to be a part of a conference that is challenging each and every match. We shot ourselves in the foot in our first conference match of the season and were never able to make up the ground. Hopefully this will serve as a teachable moment for the future. It takes just one hiccup in our play to cost us a shot at playoffs when you're in a conference as good as the Liberty League and that's exactly what happened."

The Saints travel to Hamilton next weekend for the Hamilton Triad, facing off against SUNY Morrisville and Hamilton in two non-league matches on Saturday Oct. 28th.

"I have absolutely loved being with this team and the season has flown by. It's sad to know that there is now only one week left but we'll continue to enjoy our time together and finish the season on a high note with positive preparation for SUNY Morrisville and Hamilton next weekend to finish the season," Roiger finished.

St. Lawrence improved to 17-10 on the season and 4-3 in league play. The Saints finished the conference season tied for fourth place with Skidmore, but missed the tournament due to a tiebreaker. Bard fell to 5-22 and 0-7.
