The St. Lawrence University volleyball team made an amazing comeback to score a 3-2 victory over St. John Fisher before falling in three sets to SUNY Fredonia on the final day of the 2016 season in a pair of matches at SUNY Brockport in the Brockport Invitational Saturday afternoon.

St. Lawrence (14-19) dropped the first two sets to St. John Fisher by scores of 25-20 and 25-18 but came roaring back to win the third and fourth sets with winning scores of 25-18 and 25-17 to force the fifth set tiebreaker. The Saints posted a 15-8 win in the tiebreaker to finish off the victory. In the Fredonia match, the Saints fell in straight sets by scores of 25-23, 25-20 and 25-18.

"We showed great heart in our comeback against St. John Fisher," said head coach Shelly Roiger. "After falling down 0-2, the team showed great focus and perseverance and our fifth set was our best fifth set of the season. Just 30 minutes later, we faced Fredonia and after a poor start, battled our way back to put us in a position to take the first set but we made too many miscues in the 20's again. Our fatigue caught up with us in sets two and three."

In the St. John Fisher match, Masha Kolesnikova led the Saints with 15 kills and also recorded 13 digs while Grace Kelly added 13 kills and 14 digs. Katie Kull handed out 39 assists, served four aces and had 14 digs. Amanda Teppo finished with seven kills and seven blocks.

Against Fredonia, Kolesnikova and Teppo led the team with six kills each. Senior Katie Rowell wrapped up her career with a team-leading 19 digs and Kull had 22 assists.

The Saints finish the season with 14 victories including four in the last six matches of the season. Kolesnikova finished the season with 317 kills and Teppo moved into third place on the SLU record book blocks in season list with 116 passing Cristina Deschaine who had 114 last season. With 625 assists this year, Kull moved into third place on the career assists list.
