The St. Lawrence University volleyball team continued their impressive play on Saturday afternoon, as the Saints shut out Skidmore and Vassar, 3-0, in Liberty League play in the Burkman Gymnasium. The Saints donned pink uniforms, as the University hosted its annual "Power of Pink" event to raise funds and awareness in the fight against breast cancer.

St. Lawrence, now 15-8 and in second place in the conference with a 6-2 record behind only nationally-ranked Clarkson, has won 13 consecutive sets after sweeping all four opponents in the North Country this weekend. The win over Vassar avenged a 3-0 loss to the Brewers earlier this season.

The Thoroughbreds, who defeated Bard 3-1 in their opening match of the day, were competitive in both the first and second sets, clawing back from deficits to stay within striking distance. However, clutch, set-clinching kills from Amanda Brooks and Becky Briggs helped St. Lawrence to narrow wins and a 2-0 lead. The Saints then pulled away from Skidmore in the third game, rattling off eight straight points behind the service of Marisa Turner to close out the match, 25-13.

Brooks finished with a season-high 12 kills, while rookie Masha Kolesnikova added 11 and hit .556 in the match. Katie Kull had 22 assists, while Turner turned in a 11-dig performance. Cristina Deschaine finished with a team-high four blocks and added seven kills. Skidmore (3-15) was led by Aria Goodman's match-high 13 kills and Marcela Familiar's 15 digs.

St. Lawrence carried its momentum in the Vassar match, pulling away from the Brewers late in each set en route to the sweep. Vassar hung around early but errors caught up with the Brewers, as they committed 22 attack errors, eight receiving errors and five ball-handling errors.

Junior Lexi Brown had a big game for the Saints, hitting .552 with 14 kills and only two errors, while Deschaine was also sharp with eight kills and no errors. Kull led the team with 14 assists, while Katarina Marczeski added 13 as well. Marie Pitre had seven kills, a team-high for Vassar, but also had seven errors. Taylor Mosley led the Brewers with a match-high eight digs.

St. Lawrence will be in action again this Tuesday evening at SUNY Potsdam before heading into a bye week. The Saints and Bears will get underway at 7:00pm.
