Masha Kolesnikova finished with 22 kills including 14 against Middlebury but the St. Lawrence University volleyball team dropped a pair of matches Saturday losing to Hamilton and Middlebury in a tri-match at Middlebury.
The Saints (5-10) lost in three sets to Hamilton by scores of 25-9, 25-15 and 25-15 and also lost in three sets to Middlebury by scores of 25-23, 25-19 and 25-15.
Against Hamilton, Kolesnikova led the St. Lawrence attack with eight kills, Maddy Bishop had 16 assists and Ally Good led the defense with six digs.
In the Middlebury match, Kolesnikova finished with 14 kills and Bishop handed out 19 assists while Good recorded 15 digs.
In the first set against the Panthers, Kolesnikova gave the Saints a 23-22 lead before Middlebury responded with a pair of kills and a service ace to finish the set. The Saints had rallied after being down 15-8 and tied the score at 21-21.
In the second set, the Saints rallied after being down 22-14 and four straight points before the Panthers scored three of the final four points.
"We were a complete no-show for the Hamilton match which there is zero excuse for," said head coach Shelly Roiger. "We played much better and flat out worked much harder during the Middlebury match and as a result competed at moments. We got off to horrible starts in all six sets and that haunted us all day. We need to take the attitude of enough is enough and we'll find out during Monday's practice if our team has the toughness to do so."
