Lexi Brown had 14 kills and Mariah Dignan added 31 digs for the St. Lawrence University Volleyball team Friday night but it was not enough as Buffalo State won a 3-1 decision on the first day of competition at the Buffalo State Invitational Friday in Buffalo.

The Bengals (11-17) won the first two sets by scores of 25-22 and 25-18 before St. Lawrence(15-17) battled back and put together a late 11-0 run to post a 25-19 victory in the third set. The Bengals bounced back for a 25-14 win in the fourth set to end the match with the 3-1 win.

"Our loss tonight was very disappointing," said Head Coach Shelly Roiger. "We were on the bus for five hours and that's exactly how we played. Buffalo State played very well and deserved the win. I thought we had a couple individuals who played their hearts out and I am proud of their efforts. As a team, we need to go together and the result was a reflection of our lack of heart and energy that was displayed on the court tonight.

Brown led the attack with her 14 kills and first year Grace Kelly added 11 kills for the Saints. Katie Kull handed out 27 assists and Dignan led the defensive effort with 31 digs which was the second highest one set total in her career. Kull and Masha Kolesnikova had eight digs each and Brown chipped in nine digs for the Saints. Cristina Deschaine led the defense at the net with six blocks.

"As I told the team after the match we get to wake up in the morning and we get to have another game day in front of us," said Roiger. "I'm excited to see Saints Volleyball return to the court tomorrow and play the way we are capable of playing."

The Saints will wrap up the regular season schedule with matches against Allegheny at 11 am and St. John Fisher at 1:30 pm Saturday in Buffalo. The Saturday match against St. John Fisher could play a pivotal role in the seeding for the Liberty League Tournament as St. Lawrence and RIT are tied for the third seed and records against common opponents outside the League are used as a tie breaker and both teams will have played the Cardinals.
