CORTLAND -- The St. Lawrence University volleyball team was swept on the second day of the 30th Annual Red Dragon Classic on Saturday as the Saints fell to Fredonia State and Hiram College by the scores of 3-1 and 3-0, respectively.

"Despite going 1-3 this weekend, I think we got more out of this tournament than others where we've gone undefeated," said St. Lawrence head coach Shelly Roiger. "The competition was excellent and at time, especially against Fredonia, we played with moments of greatness. I'm looking forward to an industrious week on the court, as we have a lot to work on."

St. Lawrence (1-3) was led offensively by Lexi Brown's 17 kills in the two matches including a team-high nine in the loss to Fredonia. Cristina Deschaine also had a solid outing with 13 kills overall.

Captain Jenna Street had 16 assists and 10 digs in the loss to Fredonia, in which St. Lawrence lost a six-point lead in the third game to give the Blue Devils the momentum en route to the 25-23, 15-25, 23-25, 14-25 win. Katie Kull added 11 assists while Catherine Rowell had a team-high 17 digs. First-year student Masha Kolesnikova had 14 digs and a team-high two solo blocks.

Meanwhile, Hiram cruised to victory in the Saints' final match of the tournament by the score of 25-10, 25-10, 25-16. Brown's eight kills led St. Lawrence, while Kull had a team-high 10 assists. Brown (7) and Street (6) led the team in digs against the Terriers.

St. Lawrence will be in action next weekend at the 2014 Victory Promotions Tournament. The Saints will make their debut in the Burkman Gymnasium on Friday, September 5 at 6pm against Plattsburgh State.
