The St. Lawrence University women's crew team narrowly missed medaling at the 2013 New York State Championships in Whitney Point, NY this weekend. The Saints varsity 8+ finished fourth, only :02 seconds behind Marist for third, in the collegiate finals.
The varsity 8+, which was third after qualifying for finals, raced in 7:02.96 to top both Rochester and Hamilton. William Smith scored an impressive open water victory ahead of Ithaca and Marist.
St. Lawrence's second varsity also qualified for collegiate finals and finished in fifth position ahead of Rochester. The Saints' time of 7:24.51 fell .20 seconds shy of Hamilton for fourth, while Ithaca won the race.
The final Saints' boat to compete was the Open 4+, which was victorious with a time of 8:12.57. St. Lawrence earned the open-water victory ahead of Vassar, West Point and Albany.
Competing for the Scarlet and Brown in the varsity 8+ were Kelly Greenwood, Madeline Fones, Jessica Burdett, Jenette Kloss, Britton Weber, Maggie Fellows, Sally Dankner, Karen Blakelock and Heidi Weiss. The second varsity included Yukiko McQueeney, Jennifer Longwell, Alissa McCaffrey, Cadence Trapini, Hannah Durant, Abigail McIvor, Eleanor Jones, Daniela Stokes and Gabrielle Schreffler. Amy Yao was coxswain of the open 4+, with Longwell, Schreffler, Grace Conrad and Ann West rowing.
St. Lawrence will compete for the final time this spring next weekend at the 2013 ECAC Championships in Worcester, MA.
