The St. Lawrence University volleyball team extended a season-long winning streak to six matches behind a 3-1 victory over Skidmore College on Saturday in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY. However, the Saints saw that run come to an end, as Vassar College earned a 3-0 win in the second match, avenging a 3-1 loss to the Scarlet and Brown last weekend.

St. Lawrence is now 14-6 (6-2) on the season after the split. Rebecca Doser had a career match against Skidmore, piling up 20 kills to help the Saints to a narrow 19-25, 26-24, 25-23, 26-24 win. Meanwhile, Lexi Brown had 11 kills to only one error in the loss to Vassar, while Doser added seven more kills in that match. However, the Saints' defense couldn't neutralize Taylor Mosley, who had 19 kills to only three errors for the Brewers en route to the 25-21, 25-16, 25-18 sweep.

"Our Skidmore win was one of our most gratifying of the season in terms of toughness," said St. Lawrence head coach Shelly Roiger. We were down late in all three sets that we won and showed that 'refuse-to-lose' mentality and actually turned effort into action."

Despite a winless conference record, Skidmore came out firing in the first set and took an early 1-0 lead on the Saints. Corinne Palmer was sharp from the outset and finished with 12 kills to a single error in the match. The Thoroughbreds continued to push St. Lawrence throughout the match, taking leads late with chances to win. However, the Saints would rally in the final three sets to secure a dramatic conference win.

Jenna Street had 46 assists for the Saints in the Skidmore victory, while Katie Prue led the defense with 20 digs. Anna Kassab (14), Street (13) and Brown (12) also reached double-digits in digs. Rookie Rebecca Briggs continued her solid defense at the net with one solo block and four assists.

St. Lawrence simply couldn't rally in the second match against Vassar, as they started slow with a .133 hitting percentage in the opening set. The team had 11 serving errors in the match and nine receiving errors, as Vassar was outstanding in the second set, hitting nearly 40% en route to the three-set win.

The Saints will be in action again on Tuesday night when they head to Plattsburgh State to take on the Cardinals at 7:00pm.
