The St. Lawrence University volleyball team earned a split on Saturday on day two of the 2012 Victory Promotions Invitational, as the Saints fell 3-0 to St. Michael's before downing Oswego State in five games, 3-2.

The split moves the Scarlet and Brown to 3-5 heading into a Tuesday night match with Potsdam State.

St. Lawrence again came out of the gate well in the opener against the Purple Knights, battling point-for-point throughout the first game. However, St. Michael's would hang on, 25-22, before rolling in games two and three with 25-14 and 25-12 wins.

First-year student Rebecca Doser closed with a team-high nine kills, while co-captain Katie Prue added seven kills and a team-best 13 digs.

The Saints would take a 1-0 lead on the Lakers in the second match thanks to a 25-15 win in game one. Though the Lakers would even it at 1-1 (25-21), St. Lawrence would again win 25-15 in the third to take control of the match. The young team built a lead in the fourth game, but saw it slip away as the Lakers forced the deciding game with a dramatic 26-24 victory.

However, St. Lawrence would respond in style in the fifth and deciding game, as they took a 5-3 lead before posting a 10-2 run to close out the match and win 15-5.

Four players finished with double-digits in digs, including co-captains Anna Kassab (22) and Jenna Street (11), rookie Mariah Dignan (19) and Prue (12). Kassab and Street combined for 59 assists in the win, while Prue racked up a team-high 16 kills. Street and first-year student Christia Deschaine also had solid offensive games with 10 and 12 kills, respectively.

The Saints will be in action again on Tuesday night in the Burkman Gymnasium when they host the Potsdam State Bears at 7:00pm.
