Saints Top Dutchwomen in tennis to complete weekend sweep

The St. Lawrence University women's tennis team improved to 7-4 on the season, handily defeating Union College on Sunday afternoon in the Newell Field House. The Saints, ranked #17 in the Northeast, will travel to Rochester and William Smith next weekend for a pair of dual matches.

St. Lawrence jumped out to a 3-0 lead after double competition. The number two pair of Elizabeth Geer and Morgan McNeal was first off court as it defeated Hayley Lough and Lauren Main, 8-1. Elkie Vandenbeemt and Shannon Murphy followed with an 8-1 win over DeeDee Gaudian and Kate Collins at the number one spot, and then Sami Miller and Olivia Arroyo took down Camille Ertel and Nell Pinkston, 8-3, at number three.

In singles action, Arroyo defeated Collins at three (6-2, 6-0) before Murphy clinched the match for the Saints with a sweep of Ertel (6-0, 6-0). McNeal topped Lough at two, 6-1, 6-1, followed by Vandenbeemt earning a 6-1, 6-2 win over Gaudian in the one spot.

At four, Geer defeated Main, 6-4, 6-2, and then Miller completed the Saints sweep by blanking Pinkston at six, 6-0, 6-0.
