Sophomores Laura Gay and Augusta Mayer each shot career low 36-hole totals of 158 and first year Hailey Wilson made an impressive debut with a 164 total as St. Lawrence University's women's golf team tied nationally fifth-ranked Ithaca College for second in the nine-team St. Lawrence Invitational at the Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course on Sunday.

The Saints held the day one lead in the tournament by a stroke over NYU. SLU finished the soggy first round with a best-four-of-five total of 318 strokes, led by Gay's three-over par 75. NYU had all five of its team players shoot in the 70s on Sunday for a 306 total and a two-day 625 which topped the Saints and Ithaca which each had best four-of-five totals of 647. SUNY Cortland was fourth, followed by William Smith, Hamilton, the SLU Brown squad, Union and Elmira.

All three of the Saint sophomores on the "Scarlet" squad shot career bests on day one despite the wet conditions with Mayer shooting 80, tied for sixth overall and Lexie Haehl 81 and tied for eighth. First year Natalie Squillace, playing for the "Brown" squad was the other Saint to break 90, shooting 86 in her first collegiate round while Grace King shot 91, Sam Vermeulen shot 93, Tessa Denison carded a 95, Gwen Maurice shot 104 and Madison Rusch 121. Saint junior Claire O'Neil, a two-time Liberty League Champion, is studying in Denmark for the first semester and will return to the team in the spring.

Gay shot 83 on Sunday while Mayer improved her career best with a 78 as the two tied for fifth at 158. Wilson's back-to-back 82s tied her for 11th while Haehl shot 86 on Sunday for a career best 167 36-hole total and Grace King shot 93 for a 184.

Squillace shot 96 on Sunday and tied for 25th with a 182 total while Vermeulen finished at 196, Maurice at 204 and Rusch at 230.
