Saints swimming team sweep Utica on "Senior Day"

The St. Lawrence University swimming and diving team earned a sweep over Utica by the scores of 133-79 (men) and 147-78 (women) on Saturday afternoon. The Saints celebrated "senior day" as Class of 2012, comprised of Andrew Hayes, Russ Newton, Chasity Barcomb, Brynn Hagen, Molly Lunn and Katie Spakowski, competed in its last home swim meet of the season.

The women's team posted 10 individual and a relay win, and was led by double-winners Hagen and Barcomb and sophomore Natalie Dellinger. Hagen earned victories in the 200 IM (2:22.49) and the 100 back (1:04.85), while Barcomb won the 1 meter (175.70) and the 3 meter dives (219.85).

Dellinger took home the 50 free (27.08) and the 100 free (58.38), and joined junior Casey Abribat, sophomore Elizabeth Canne, and first-year student Samantha Moffitt (4:16.92) in the winning 400 medley relay (4:16.92).

Moffitt earned an individual victory in the 100 fly (1:04.42), while Canne won the 200 free (2:05.80).

Lunn won the 1000 free with a time of 11:19.58, over 45 seconds faster than her competitors, and first-year student Caroline Winslow earned victory in the 500 free (5:36.44).

The men's team posted 10 individual wins and a relay win, and was led by junior Jason Dutra's three individual victories in the 50 free (22.82), the 100 fly (55.96) and the 100 back (58.81).

Co-captains Newton and Hayes, along with first-year student Billy Moran were double-winners for the Saints. Newton won the 1000 free (10:20.70) and the 100 free (52.82), Hayes won the 200 free (1:48.95) and the 500 free (5:08.85), and Moran won the 1 meter (185.90) and 3 meter dives (181.60).

Also earning a first place finish was sophomore Luke Peleggi in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.89), while the 400 free relay team earned a top finish with a time of 3:34.51.

The Saints will travel to Webster, NY on Feb. 22-25 to compete in the UNYSCSA Championships. Go Saints and congratulations to the Class of 2012!
