The St. Lawrence University volleyball team swept its Liberty League competition on Saturday in the Burkman Gymnasium, beating Vassar in four sets in the opener and then blanking Bard, 3-0. The Saints, who improve to 11-5 on the season, celebrated "Senior Day," honoring Katie Prue and Anna Kassab in their last home weekend of volleyball competition in their four-year careers at St. Lawrence.

"Today was a fantastic day for our program," said St. Lawrence head coach Shelly Roiger. "We played with a great deal of focus and composure to hang on to victory over a very talented Vassar team. They have a lot of great weapons and served us extremely tough but we were able to stay within our game plan and I thought we executed extremely well at times."

St. Lawrence earned a 3-1 victory over Vassar in its first match of the day by the scores of 25-23, 27-25, 19-25, 25-21). The Saints opened up to a big lead in the first game and were able to hang on despite the Brewers come-back. After the Saints gained a 2-0 edge with a 27-25 win in game two, Vassar made it 2-1 with a 25-19 win in game three. St. Lawrence, however, took the first match of the day with a 25-21 win in the fourth game.

Cristina Deschaine had 12 kills in 18 attempts (.611) and also added an assisted block. Lexi Brown added nine kills, while Rebecca Doser, Amanda Brooks and Rebecca Briggs combined for 19 kills against Vassar. Jenna Street notched 31 assists and three service aces in the match, while Prue led the Saints defensively with 18 digs.

St. Lawrence closed the day with a 3-0 victory over Bard by the scores of 25-11, 25-16, 25-10. Deschaine had eight kills to finish with 20 on the day. Street and Kassab split the setting duties, finishing with 11 and 12, respectively, while adding three service aces apiece. Lexi Brown had a team-high seven service aces, while Prue, Doser and Marissa Turner combined for 10 service aces.

"I couldn't ask for a better finish to the weekend, as we honored Anna and Katie who have given so much to this program," added Coach Roiger. "I'm very happy for them and the entire team for their efforts and accomplishments in this weekend's three matches. It's very early in the Liberty League season and there's a lot of volleyball left yet, but it was a great start."

The Saints will travel to Bard and Vassar next weekend, Oct. 4th and 5th, for their next series of Liberty League matches.
