St. Lawrence University alpine skiers Nick Stenicka and Graham Scott earned top-15 finishes on Saturday, as the Saints alpine ski teams competed in the slalom at the 2014 Colby Carnival at Sugarloaf.
Stenicka's time of 1:30.63 was good for 12th overall, his best collegiate finish. The Winter Park, CO native posted a second run time of 43.61 seconds, a top-10 run, and was awarded 29.0 points. He was followed by Scott by a mere .03 seconds in 13th place, and Loudon Fruth's 26th place showing capped the Saints' scoring at 73.0 points. The trio combined to place St. Lawrence in fifth in the team standings.
Dustin Martin and Dylan Murtha also competed for St. Lawrence, but did not finish their opening runs.
In the women's slalom, the trio of Sophia Frankenburg, Alita Rogers and Maria Hillenbrand finished 25th, 26th and 27th, consecutively, to place St. Lawrence in seventh position. Frankenburg led the way with a combined time of 1:45.15 and 18.0 points.
Amie Lonza finished in 31st place, while Allison Visconti and Ciar Colgan did not finish their second runs.
The University of Vermont swept the slalom on Saturday, as Travis Dawson and Kate Ryley were the individual winners and paced the Catamounts to the team titles.
The St. Lawrence alpine ski teams will compete again next weekend in the 2014 UNH Carnival.
