Justin Spalik is in sixth place at the midpoint of the New
York State Collegiate Track Conference decathlon championship at RPI and junior
A.J. Blaisdell won the hammer competition at the Big Red Invitational at
Cornell on Sunday with the Saint 4x100 relay team also emerging victorious..
Spalik scored 685 points with a 11.83 clocking in the 100 for his best performance of day one. He picked up 597 with a 6.04 meter long jump, 515 with a 10.48 meter mark in the shot put and scored 536 points with a1.69 meter high jump. He ran 54.94 for 601 points in the 400 in the final event of Sunday's competition and has 2934 points through five of the
ten events.
The event concludes Monday with the 110 hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin
and 1500.
Other members of the Saint team prepped for next weekend's NYSCTC
Championship meet at Rochester with Sunday's event at Cornell.
Blaisdell threw a personal best by over eight meters in winning the hammer
with a 50.92 meter throw while the 4x100 team of Adrian Wilson, Jarell Roberts,
Omaru Kabia and Jamal Samaroo was less than a second off the SLU record in that
event, winning in 43.07 seconds.
Seth Jackson was second in the 5000 in 15:03.21, the 4x400 team of Taylor
Macci, James May, Jack Knych and Roberts was second in 3:27.97 and Josh Martell
was second in the javelin with a 46.38 meter throw.
Other top tens for the Saints included a fifth in the triple jump at 13.58
meters by Samaroo, a third in the high jump with a 1.94 meter mark by Brian
Kane with Mike Scott fifth, a fifth from Jon Cyphers in the javelin, an eighth
by Roberts with a time of 11.12 in the 100 meters, a ninth by Jake Fredericks
in the 110 hurdles in 15.52 and a seventh by Zach Nelson in 9:54.03 in the 3000
steeplechase with Aaron Tompkins ninth and Corey Hahnl 10th.
